I’d like to tell you my story..
Thank you for making an impact in the lives of our student’s! Through your prayers, support, and financial gifts YOU ARE MAKING A KINGDOM DIFFERENCE. HERE'S ONE STUDENTS STORY....
My name is Lucy Gillies, and I am in Legacy's graduating class of 2026
I have gone to Legacy since I was in 1st grade, and I am here to share how much it has equipped me with Godly skills in my spiritual, relational, and academic walks. I am so thankful for how the Lord has provided such an opportunity to not only grow my skills, but also learn how to use them for the benefit of others and for His glory. When I reflect on my journey, I realize that God was weaving together moments of growth even when I didn’t recognize it at the time.
Throughout my life I have had a lot of questions but I've been scared to speak up and ask them. Being at Legacy around peers and teachers who believe in the same things I do allowed me to be my true self. This provided me with opportunities to get my questions answered so that I could use my experiences to help others that are struggling with similar things.
It felt natural and I felt at home when schoolwork and Biblical doctrine were blended. My questions that I was always nervous to ask were answered and I was able to learn new things that I could use in church as well. This helped further my education and helped me understand my faith in a deeper way!
I have always been a natural leader, and I love how throughout the years Legacy has accepted that part of me, and found ways to incorporate it throughout my education. In 5th grade there was a big jump in independence throughout my schoolwork and my projects. I've always enjoyed the opportunity to present information to my peers in a way that I can express my skills and smarts. To this day, designing powerpoints for summative projects is one of my favorite things to do. When we began doing presentations it gave me a way to express my creativity and make my learning my own. Through group projects and presentations, I learned how to communicate clearly, collaborate well, and express ideas in ways that reflect excellence.
House Camp at Forrest Home my Sophomore year was when worship finally clicked.
Growing up, I'd always been nervous to give Jesus praise because I was scared to be judged by others. Being in an amphitheater, seeing my peers who were freely worshiping God without any pressure or judgement gave me a feeling of comfort and ease.
I experienced the level of intimacy that takes place between me and my heavenly Father when I draw near to him. It taught me that when we gather as a community and worship without fear, God moves in powerful and personal ways.
I never had a solid friend group until high school. Since finding friends was a challenge, I became friendly with teachers. Being at Legacy gave me many opportunities to communicate with adults. Whether clarifying information, advocating for myself, or asking questions to go more in-depth about topics we had covered during class. I had many chances to speak one on one or in small groups with teachers. Engaging with teachers in this way challenged me and helped me grow, particularly in my spiritual and intellectual maturity. As I am nearing 18, I have found it very helpful to have a skillset that allows me to engage thoughtfully with adults.
I appreciate how much Legacy has taught me to practically take my faith and practice it in real life. I enjoy asking questions and being asked questions that challenge my faith and make me think deeper about Christianity. I know that it is so important to dig deep into what you believe and really seek out your faith in all aspects and areas of life; whether that be in relationships, in work, in school, or in this crazy world. I think Legacy has taught me to be a Jesus-lover being present in this world, without becoming of this world. As I prepare to step into the next season of life, I can see clearly how Legacy has prepared me not just for college, but for life as a follower of Christ. I know that the foundation God built in me during my years here will continue to guide me wherever He leads next.
