All other students must be dropped off and picked up at building 3. This class will meet in Rm 302.

How do I enroll?

Semester 1 Deadline: October 6

Cost: $120.00 for 10 sessions for 4-5th grade students

*If your 4/5th grade student is currently enrolled in Friday Study Class they are allowed to register and participate in this enrichment class also. It is a separate fee from the FSC fee.

Competition

This course is intended to prepare Legacy students to participate with Legacy’s STEAM Team at the Kern County STEAM Olympiad on May 1, 2027. Note that although this is a first-semester course, the competition is held during the second semester, so participating students should be willing to meet with their teams in March/April to refine any engineering builds they plan to bring to the competition.

Students will explore engineering and physics topics through hands-on experimentation, trials, failures, and redesign. Home day work will be assigned. Students will have the opportunity to work on 4 projects that directly relate to the competitive events at the Olympiad: a vehicle powered by a mousetrap, a human Rube Goldberg apparatus, a tennis-ball-throwing trebuchet, and an air-powered
rocket.

Students may also want to consider participating in the Semester 2 course that will begin: February 19. Registration for Semester 2 will be open in January.

The Kern County STEAM Olympiad Olympiad Day will be on May 1, 2027, 8:30am-2:00pm, at Liberty High School.

Students in grades 4-8 have the opportunity to participate on our STEAM OLYMPIAD TEAM!

Interested 4th-8th Grade Students should enroll in Legacy’s STEAM Olympiad electives.

We are excited to take a team of students to the Kern County Olympiad again this year on May 1, 2027. You will prepare for this friendly county-wide competition by enrolling in Legacy’s STEAM Olympiad electives. Space is limited! Our first semester course will focus on Engineering topics (max enrollment is 16 students). Our second semester course will focus on Cryptology, Logical Reasoning, and Games (max enrollment is 24 students). Choose your favorite or take both!
