  • Adventure Leadership

    Fulfills a General Elective.

    This course will demonstrate the vastness of God and His creation while helping students learn to develop their leadership abilities. skills to grow leadership abilities. The instructor will provide training in such skills as navigation, pioneering, cooking, wilderness survival, hiking, rock climbing, white water rafting, fishing, firearm safety and much more! Students will participate in a minimum of 2-3 outdoor excursions.

  • Drawing

    Fulfills Fine Art elective: Art Prerequisite

    Drawing is one of three foundation-level art courses offered at Legacy Christian Academy. At its most basic level, this hands-on course aims to equip students with the fundamental skills needed to create accurate representational drawings, utilizing a variety of media including pencil, charcoal, and ink. Students will demonstrate visual and technical skills while drawing three dimensional objects from observation. Students will also learn to identify, describe and understand the use of traditional methods essential to the process of drawing: cross contour, continuous tone modeling, hatching, cross hatching, etc. Students are assigned core projects throughout the semester and at the end of the year students’ work is featured in the Legacy Art Show.

  • Drama

    Fulfills Fine Art elective.

    An introductory course which gives students a foundation in acting, script writing and set production. Students will be involved in class performances including pantomimes, improvisations and other performances in front the class and other live audiences. This course will emphasize the development of skills for theatrical performances as well as the history of theatre. Some play reading is required as well as viewing and critiquing performances.

  • Edible Education/Home Economics

    Fulfills General elective.

    Hands on cooking classroom where students prepare healthy, fresh, seasonal produce in a simple way through culinary team building. At every class, students will sit down and eat what they have prepared at a communal table. The objective is that by providing students with knowledge and skills, they will discover where their food comes from and be able to make the connection between food, health, and the environment. Students will use a variety of recipes and cooking methods, enabling them to make life long healthy food choices. Enrollment is limited to 10 students.

  • Filmmaking/Photography

    Fulfills Fine Art or General elective.

    This elective course will equip students to create effective visual stories of influence through a combination of film and photography. Students will learn to capture images following basic rules of composition, light design, exposure, and principles of art to produce high quality work. Students will develop and expand their skills in producing both artistic and commercial photographs using DSLR cameras and equipment. Students will learn all aspects of filmmaking from script to screen as well as valuable life skills such as teamwork and creative communication. By the end of this course, students will, recognize and create stories from life experiences and imagination, understand that their stories have significance, collaborate within a team to complete a project, know the technical basics of filmmaking, produce a 10-minute movie for entry into the 28th annual Christian Youth Film Festival.

  • Foreign Language

    Legacy offers three courses in American Sign Language (ASL), the fourth most used language in the United States. Deaf culture and history are integrated into instruction of basic ASL grammar, vocabulary, fingerspelling, numbers, body shifting, signing, simple deaf structure sentences, presentations, storytelling, and video.

    Legacy offers two courses in Spanish. Students learn basic Spanish grammar to help them build fluency and understand the structure of the Spanish language.

  • Guitar

    Fulfills General elective.

    This semester-long class is designed for beginners and intermediate players alike; through understanding the guitar as a whole and the foundations of music, each student will learn to fall in love with the six string. Topics covered will include: basic music theory, ear training, chords, scales, and arpeggios. Students will also learn basic maintenance of the guitar including how to change strings and clean the instrument. Most of the music played in this class will be drawn from the worship and Christian genre, with practical applications demonstrated and assigned. The class format will include a combination of group instruction, private teaching, listening to music, and practice. Both acoustics and electrics are welcomed.

  • Introduction to IEW Writing

    *This course is required for all High School students who have not previously completed IEW.

    This course teaches students the required elements of writing in a variety of genres and provides the tools and strategies to become independent, competent writers and communicators.

  • Introduction to Climbing

    Fulfills General elective.

    This course is a study and practice in the exciting adventure sport of climbing. The student will learn about the physical and mental challenges that climbing offers in a climbing gym environment. Course will include training in basic climbing skills, knot tying, belaying and safety. Upon completion the student will have a greater understanding in the methods of climbing, equipment, and will be proficient in top-rope belaying.

  • Introduction to Skateboarding

    Fulfills General elective.

    Intro to skateboarding will help students build a foundation by teaching them how to ride and safely navigate their skateboards on flat ground. WIth these basics mastered, students will be able to transition smoothly to more challenging terrain, mini ramps and more technical maneuvers if they choose to do so. This class' main goal is to help students develop control, strength, flexibility and confidence. Other areas of focus will include; how to assemble a skateboard, street safety, safety equipment and skate parks.

  • Online Journalism/Podcasting: The Daily Roar

    Fulfills College Prep elective.

    Students will use their writing and photography skills to create articles for the school online newspaper The Daily Roar (thedailyroar.news). Additionally, students will create unique podcasts as part of the second season of Listen to Our Roar (thedailyroar.news/listentoourroar). Attention will be given in class to the history of journalism, acquiring information for articles/interviews, media ethics, and more. We will publish and broadcast weekly. By the end of the class, you will have increased confidence in both your written and spoken communication skills—and have satisfaction in contributing to a quality product available on the internet! The class works in tandem with The Morning Show and may involve working with them for specific episodes and/or school events.

  • Visual Media Journalism: The Morning Show

    Fulfills Fine Art or General elective.

    The Morning Show is scripted, anchored, and produced by a select group of Legacy High School students. This course is designed to produce a well-rounded understanding of group initiative, individual responsibility, and to enhance public speaking. The Morning Show is a visual media course where students learn solely on and off camera skills, production crew, and media operations. We record weekly and broadcast episodes every Tuesday for the school and community to watch as morning announcements. Students’ work is mainly on campus, except for school event media coverage for the public.

  • Printmaking

    Fulfills Fine Art or College Prep elective: Drawing Prerequisite Required

    In this hands on course, we will explore printmaking with an emphasis on intaglio and relief techniques. In-class work will be structured around a series of printmaking projects, including soft ground, engraving, linocut, and woodcut. We will review the historical context of the printed image, and seek to reframe the discourse surrounding the fine art print by clarifying the many ways in which print is central to contemporary art. Time in this studio course will frequently be given for studio assignments, students are responsible for bringing their art supplies to every class session. Students will develop the skills and competencies necessary for a beginning to intermediate printmaker. Students will develop creative capacities in individual expression, imagination, and elaboration of thoughts and insights as it relates to printmaking. Students will also develop an interest in life-long learning and participation in the art world.

    Printmaking is a collaborative activity - learning, sharing, conversation, and community are a big part of printmaking. Students are assigned core projects throughout the semester and at the end of the year students’ work is featured in the Legacy Art Show.

  • Painting 1

    Fulfills a Fine Art elective.

    Students can expect to gain a strong foundation in painting in this beginning level. Color theory, composition, elements of art, principles of design and the basic techniques and concepts of painting will be covered. The end goals are to increase artistic self-confidence, increase understanding of the basics of painting and produce successful works of art.

  • Robotics

    Robotics is the branch of mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, and computer science that deals with the design, construction, operation, and application of robots, as well as computer systems for their control, sensory feedback, and information processing. Students will be introduced to these concepts in this course and participate in the construction of a robot. Students may also participate on the VEX Robotics Competitive Team which competes throughout the year.

  • Sewing

    Fulfills General elective.

    This course builds the fundamentals of sewing through a series of small projects. Each project will teach a new skill which may include inserting zippers and buttonholes, hand sewing, gathering, creating 3D objects, and quilting. Geometry and math concepts are utilized through practical, hands on methods. By the end of the course, students will be able to follow simple pattern directions which will encourage them to sew independently and confidently on their own. Note: This course completes new projects each semester.

  • Worship Band

    No Credit Elective. Fulfills Servant Leadership Requirement.

    *Application required. Prerequisite: aptitude on an instrument and/or Voice.

    This course equips students to be effective worship leaders who integrate worship within a community of faith and lead God's people in faithful worship. This course develops skills for effective servant leadership. May require additional rehearsals outside of class time.
